Lotus Felt Tutorial

logo

Hello….
coverlotusfelttutorialSo, this time I will show you how to make simple lotus felt brooch. It’s still a beginner tutorial and it’s really easy to make. If you have any felt in any colour at your preferance and a big button, you can make it.
As you can see, this flower is quite big, so if you want to make a smaller one, try to decrease the diameter of the round felt used for the petals.
IMG_1373editYou can also use this flower as a garland or a bouquet. I think that would be a wonderful ideas.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS
1. 4 round shape felt in any colours that like. The diameter is up to you, but in this tutorial I use 6,5 cm. It’ll be quite big petals.
2. 2 leaf shaped felts. I use olive green felt.
3. 1 bead or button. I use big candies shape bead in bright pink.
4. Brooch pin.
5. Sewing needle and thread.
6. Glue gun.
7. A pair of Scissors.

You don’t have to use thread that have same colour with the felt. It won’t be seen either.

Make sure you make a nice cut round shape felt.

I don’t give you the leaf pattern but you just can cut the felt like the picture above. It’s not difficult isn’t it? :)
STEP 1:
Take a round shape felt and cut it into two.
IMG_1320edit
Then cut it again.
IMG_1322edit
Cut the sharp tip so you will have a nice round tip.
IMG_1330edit
Do it for all the round shape felt. You will have 16 felts ready to sew for the flower petals.

STEP 2:
Make a straight sew at the outer side.
IMG_1336edit
If you have done sewing it, don’t cut the thread.
IMG_1338edit
Continue to sew two other petals so you will have something like this:
IMG_1340edit
Pull the thread slowly and try to make the hole as small as possible. Chain it up and then cut the thread.
IMG_1343edit
Do the same step and make five petals…
IMG_1346edit
…and seven petals.
IMG_1350edit
If you did it right, you will have three, five, and seven petals and one leftover felt. Keep it, don’t throw it away.

STEP 3:
Give some hot glue in the bottom of the three chained petals then stick it on the five petals. So the same thing to the five chained petals and stick it on the sevem chained petals.

Last, put the bead to hide the hole in the middle of he flower. The bead also have another job to sweeten the flower. Make sure you use colours than compliment the colour of your flower.

The back of your flower will look like this:
IMG_1389edit
Put the leaves in the back of the flower with hot glue.
IMG_1395edit
You still have the petal leftover, right? Cut the sharp tips and make something like this:
IMG_1375edit
Put some hot glue and stick the brooch pin on it.
IMG_1388edit
Give the other side with some hot glue….
IMG_1391edit
And stick them on the back of the flower. It will looks like this:

And you’re done!

Try different colours and pair it with the colours of the beads.
It’s easy isn’t it?
